What is threading?

This is a natural technique using cotton thread to remove unwanted body hair. It's most often used for eyebrows, and other areas of the face.

• The threader unwinds a piece of thread, creating a circle and interior hoop, twisting that.

• The threader holds the midpoint of the thread with his/her teeth, and two other points with each hand, creating a tight triangle of crisscrossed thread.

• If the eyebrow is the area being shaped, the client uses both hands to pull skin above and below the eye taut.

• The threader then rolls the twisted part of the thread along the surface of the skin, using a back-and-forth rhythm, and appropriate use of tension, to create a scissoring effect, entwining the hairs and lifting those from the follicles. The precision method allows the stylist to remove a single hair or an entire line of hair. The process takes about five to 10 minutes.

Should I wax, thread or tweeze?

Waxing in not recommend for those suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation, sunburn, acne breakouts, peeling, irritation and users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Accutane.  An alternative is threading since it does not require any checmicals to cause further irritation or burning. Threading is slower than the waxing process yet its quicker than tweezing.

No.  Threading and waxing removes the hair from the follicle in the same manner so the hair grows back generally between 3-8 weeks.

I'm going on vacation/attending an event, when should I get a waxed?

Waxing should be done 24-48 hours before leaving for vacation or attending a special event.  Just in case you have any irritation or redness from the wax.

Also you should not wear tight clothing directly after waxing for it will cause the risk of irritation and ingrown hairs.

After waxing, you should exfoliate the skin to prevent the dead skin from accumulating in areas that can become ingrown such as the bikini line, upper thighs, underarms and calves. Go ahead and exfoliate your entire body!

What should I do before my wax appointment?

If you are having any type of facial wax, remove all makeup, creams and lotions.  This will allow the wax to better adhere to the hair and not to your skin!  Also, do not shower or get the hair wet before getting a waxing service...wax does not hold onto wet hair very well!

Some women may experience a high sensitivity to pain during the week before menstruation, therefore you might want to schedule your wax appointment the week AFTER menstruation.

Applying make-up is not recommended after receiving a facial wax or threading.  You should keep the area clean for atleast 24 hours to prevent clogged folicles, ingrown hais and irritation.
